Attractions of the Tour:

  1. Wadi Darbat: On this tour you will dive into the beauty of the western Salalah and be fascinated what nature and people have to offer. First we will go to Wadi Darbat in the Quara Mountains, where between numerous waterfalls and impressive rock formations the animals of the area gather for drinking at the riverbed

  1. Sumhuram Old City: Afterwards we go to the Sumhuram excavation site, which is also a UNESCO world heritage site. This is a fortress that was once built by the king of the Hadramaut Empire (today’s Yemen) to control the frankincense trade from Dhofar to India. From the excavation site there is also a good view of the idyllic Khor Rori inlet, which is populated by a variety of birds and is one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Dhofar region.

  1. Mirbat Castle: Now we go to a small coastal town called Mirbat, which translated means horse market. The name originated from the trade with horses, spices and frankincense which made Mirbat an important trading port. Even today, magnificent trading houses remind us of the wealth of that time. The fortress of Mirbat was built in the 18th century and is unfortunately not open to tourists, but you have an impressive view from the hill on which the castle stands.

  1. Mirbat: In the early afternoon we stop at a traditional Arabic restaurant and have lunch. Your guide will have some recommendations for you and will choose the right restaurant according to your preferences. Lunch and drinks, coffee or tea are included in the tour price.

  1. Bin Ali Tomb: A little outside Mirbat is the tomb of the holy Shaikh Muhammad bin Ali al-Alawi. According to an inscription inside the mausoleum, he is descended from the son-in-law of the Prophet Mohammed. Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter the sanctuary, however. There are other graves in the vicinity of the mausoleum, but these are only marked by gravestones that show the typical design elements of Sunni Islam.

  1. Taqag Castle: The last stop of the tour is Taqah where the castle and the beach are visited. The castle was built 300 years ago by a Wali and offers an impressive insight into the former life in the castle

  1. Taqah Beach: The beach in Taqah fascinates by its white sand and crystal clear water. There is also a cliff right next to the beach from where you have a breathtaking view over the beautiful widths of the beach.
